Sport in Mind are proud to share that the One Slough Community Fund (Slough CVS), have provided funding for the 9th year in a row, providing the local community with free, supportive sports sessions for mental wellbeing

This project will build on our successful work in Slough with Slough CVS over the past 8 years and respond to feedback from participants. The funding allows Sport in Mind to now deliver 3 weekly sport and physical activity sessions in Slough for people experiencing mental health problems (with a core focus on those with serious mental illness) and develop local volunteers to support sessions. All sessions are co-designed and identified by local people with lived experience of mental health problems and are delivered in a safe, supportive and accessible environment in order to support individuals within the local community who need it most

Katie Light, Development Officer for Sport in Mind says: Over the last 9 years, the funding from OneSlough has been truly transformative. It’s enabled Sport in Mind to reach people across the community, breaking down barriers to physical activity and improving countless lives through the power of sport and the benefits it brings to mental health.”

The work contributes to the Counties priorities of ‘A town where residents can live healthier, safer and more independent lives’ and ‘A borough for children and young people to thrive’. In particular this project will support the Council’s priority of ‘working with partners to target health inequalities and promote wellbeing’.

The project also enables our Slough Volunteers to be upskilled with our new ASDAN accreditation, which provides a greater understanding of mental health problems and will also equip them with knowledge of how to be a frontline Sport in Mind deliverer- something the charity is extremely proud to offer.

Long may this incredibly valuable partnership continue!
