Sport in Mind and British Triathlon are proud to announce a new national partnership that puts action at the heart of mental health. Together, we’re committed to opening swim, bike, run and triathlon to people experiencing mental health challenges, and to showing the nation what taking action truly looks like.

Sport in Mind and British Triathlon share a belief that movement can be lifechanging. Through this partnership, we will work side by side to create safe, welcoming environments where people can build confidence, feel supported, and experience the joy of being active.

It’s coaches learning how to support someone who’s struggling. It’s volunteers creating spaces where everyone feels they belong. It’s event organisers championing mental health on race day. It’s someone picking up a bike, lacing up their trainers, or stepping into the water for the first time in years and feeling hopeful again.

What Taking Action through partnership looks like

1. Building a mentally healthy triathlon ecosystem

We will increase knowledge, confidence and mentalhealthinformed practice across the British Triathlon network, empowering coaches, clubs and event organisers to support participants with empathy, understanding and care.

2. Inspiring the nation through livedexperience storytelling

Together, we’ll share authentic stories from athletes, volunteers and community members whose lives have been changed by movement. These stories will help shift perceptions of mental health and show that small steps can make a big difference.

3Opening up swim, bike, run and triathlon to those who need it most

We’ll create new pathways into the sport for people experiencing mental health challenges, breaking down barriers, increasing access and ensuring everyone has the chance to experience the benefits of movement.

4. Mobilising the event organiser community for impact

British Triathlon’s event organisers will play a vital role in raising awareness, inspiring participation and generating fundraising that directly supports Sport in Mind’s mission to improve the lives of people experiencing mental health problems.

For many people, mental health challenges can make even the smallest actions feel overwhelming. But movement, especially when supported by a welcoming community, can be a lifeline. It can rebuild confidence, reduce isolation, and change lives

This partnership is about making those moments possible for more people, in more places, every single week. We can’t wait to get started.
