Who We Are

Founded in 2010, Sport in Mind was created with a simple but powerful goal: to improve the lives of people struggling with their mental health through sport and physical activity. What began as a grassroots initiative has grown into a national charity, delivering over 500 sessions every month across the UK for children, young people, and adults.

Our work is guided by people with lived experience of mental illness and supported by mental health professionals, ensuring everything we do is safe, welcoming, and truly impactful. Whether it's yoga, walking, tennis, football, dance, or table tennis, our sessions are free, inclusive, and open to all.

Why Sport?

Physical activity has been scientifically proven to improve mental health, from reducing stress and anxiety to improving mood and self-esteem. But for many people experiencing mental illness, accessing traditional sports or exercise environments can feel overwhelming or out of reach.

That’s where Sport in Mind comes in. We remove the barriers, offering friendly, informal sessions that encourage people to move, connect, and feel better, no pressure, no judgment, just support.

Our sessions are delivered in partnership with the NHS, and we’re proud to be endorsed by a wide range of healthcare professionals. Each session is run by qualified instructors who understand the importance of compassion, community, and consistency.

Making a Difference

We’ve seen first-hand the incredible difference physical activity can make. Participants often tell us our sessions are the highlight of their week, a rare space where they feel understood, accepted, and uplifted.
